The string of bad luck is almost impossible to believe. Confetti is back at Bahia Mar in Ft. Lauderdale after being out at sea for seven days. Just off the coast of San Salvador, the transmission went, and we had no power or engine. Then the Genoa, blew apart and we had no head sail. The winds calmed and we had no wind. Reluctantly we decided to return to Fort Lauderdale, because whatever wind we had was in a favorable condition to return downwind using our Gennaker.
A diver today determined that we did not hit anything with our prop so the issue of the transmission is now a major question mark. It is off the boat and at the shop. We are waiting for a report. The sail maker will get the Genoa tomorrow, but we suspect it is beyond repair.
Thanks to a wonderful gesture by Bob Phillips of Doyle Sails in Tortola, we are being loaned a sail to get Confetti back to the BVI. It would look now like departure will be sometime early in the week of May 30th. However we will not know for sure until we learn more about the transmission and what possibly could have happened.
I will post more when we have further updates.
